Why hello there!
Look at your stumbling across my medium profile. Thanks for popping by! My name is Victoria, I’m a freelance writer from Canada. Yes, of course, I have a website, but if you don’t want to click that, then you can read my introduction now in this article.
I’ve been writing since I could hold a pen in my hands. Poetry has always been one of my favourite genres, but I also love illustrating comics and children’s writing. During my teenage years, I dabbled in slam poetry and performed at festivals across in Canada on various slam teams. …
Seriously, why not? It’s practically a tie! Let them both run the country while handcuffed together for 4 ridiculously long years.
Sure, nothing would get done, but it would be entertaining. I can already imagine the gifs and memes we will make of them sitting together. The two of them zip tied to each other in meetings, eating lunch, going to the washroom.
Trump trying to eat soup and Biden pulling on his wrist causing him to spill it all over his oversized suit.
Biden getting tripped by Trump as they walk down stairs. Then, his face as he realizes he is also tripping himself and the two of them would tumble down together. …
After a delightful conversation with Phoenix Huber and Randye S Spina, I realized I had a superpower I never knew of! Editing. Often I tell my friends that there is actually no such thing as good writing, only good editing. While I’m sure someone else has also said that, I still stand by it even if I’m not the first to come up with the idea.
We were discussing how to edit and I let them know about my favourite trick: Use the keyboard function Ctrl+F to find certain words and phrases that are often a point of confusion or repetition in my articles. …
It’s hard to know how much you’re worth. We’ve all been there. Working for yourself means also working on your own self-doubt, and that can take time to develop.
For my first steady writing client, I charged only $18 US an hour. He’s one of my best clients, so I’m still working at that rate. However, with new clients, I’ve started charging more because I know what I’m worth and now I have the testimonials to prove it.
There is always a time and place to offer discounted rates, but once you’re established you need to raise them. …
Like many people, when I first started listening to podcasts, it was far from enjoyable. Now, I will admit I actually started listening to talk radio, which is a bit different from podcasts but still similar enough that they coloured my perception of podcasts as well. You want me to listen to people talking in a room? How boring. No thank you.
The first radio show I listened to was a sports network with an ex-partner of mine. During hockey season I suffered immensely. We constantly fought over who was in charge of the radio while driving places.
Eventually, I took a podcast writing class at university because it fit with my class schedule. Right before the class started, I had to research different ones to understand the genre better. …
You may be one of the many writers who hate writing an outline. Honestly? I don’t blame you. I used to hate making an outline too. For years, my writing habits always involved getting an idea and running with it. The second inspiration took hold of me I would type as fast as a could in an attempt to get all my ideas out of my head and onto a piece of paper.
Sometimes, it worked! More often though, it ended up being a disorganized mess. As such, I’m writing this to help you reconsider your stance on using an outline. …
Listen, I know that you probably won’t believe me… Still, I have to try. I’ve been hiding my identity because of the harsh stereotypes that run rampant about my people. Society ostracizes us. In fact, only about 4% of Americans think Reptilians are real. Coming out to the public as a Lizard Person is a serious risk, but here I am.
My name is Victoria, and I am a Lizard Person.
I’m not the only one. Many people around you are Lizard People. While some prefer the term Reptilian, I prefer the word Lizard Person because at the end of the day — I am still a person. Sure, I’m a scaly person, but that is just one aspect of my identity. …
Welcome to ITTO! After looking around, I couldn’t find a good active podcast pub open to all writers, and so I decided to make one. Send me your podcast tips, reviews, interviews, listicles, opinions, ideas, and inspiration! Let’s get this thing going and share our knowledge.
Reach out to the editor (me) by going to my website under the contact tab. I would provide an email, but then I’d get far too much spam. Also, please make sure you include the following:
That’s it! Let’s make a great useful pub for all the podcasters out there :)
After an awesome conversation with fellow freelancer BreeAnn the other day, I realized I approach my freelancing business the same way I play the board game Splendor. For those of you who haven’t played it, let me explain.
Splendor is a game where you collect chips and cards that produce Gems to build your Gem Empire. Some Gems are very valuable and others are not. The ones that cost more to build are worth more points and the ones that cost less to build are (not surprisingly) worth far fewer points.
There are 2 strategies to win this game:
In this strategy, you take whatever you can and rack up the gems. It feels great to have tons of colourful sapphires and rubies in front of you, but the downside is that they’re all lower quality and some aren’t worth any points at all. …
It happened so fast. Seconds ago I was scrolling on Twitter and laughing at Christmas lights designed by children, and then the next thing I know I’m in some small rectangular box that pops up when you tap on my profile picture.
What is this? Where on Earth am I?
I’m inside a… fleet? Like a group of ships that sail together? Wait, no. It’s like an Instagram story? Oh god. You’re telling me Twitter wants to jump on the bandwagon and let users make stories just like Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook? Next it will be my favorite recipe blog that shows how to make delicious shiny pretzels (the secret: butter). …
